Art Ignites! Youth Art Experience Ignites interest and fun for Students and Teachers Alike

On April 26, Art Vancouver hosted Art Ignites, a youth art experience for school-aged students and their teachers, grades 6-12. The Art Ignites operated under the umbrella of Art Vancouver’s International Art Fair at the Vancouver Convention Center held on April 25-28th 2019.

A special youth focused program was developed by the Art Ignites Education Team which included a youth-focused panel talk, a live art performance, a fun, hands-on paint by numbers activity with Paintillio, small tours, a virtual reality art experience with Hammer and Tong, and an interactive curriculum developed specifically for Art Ignites by the Education Team.

Over 100 students from across the lower mainland attended to make this, our first year, exciting and memorable. Tickets were generously donated to schools by Art Vancouver.

Art Ignites would not have been the outstanding success that it was without a dedicated volunteer staff of over 30 secondary students, and the panelists, musician and artists who also shared their and talent.

Yvette Salazar and Diana Mogensen, the Art Ignites Education Team want to send out a special thanks to:

  • All the Windermere Secondary School volunteers and their teacher, Ms. Sylvia Tam and Ms. Karen Lowe who facilitated the volunteers’ participation and attendance. You guys were super professional and a pleasure to work with.

  • Two wonderful volunteers who came all the way from Maple Ridge to lend a hand; it was awesome to have you as part of the team this year.

  • Tupper Secondary School Volunteers and their teachers - your commitment went above and beyond. A million thanks!

  • Our youth focused panel participants. Thank you for a fascinating discussion: Jude Godin, Patrick O’Neil, Taisha Teal, and Tara Lupovici.

  • Our live performance artists: Mark Fraser, Taisha Teal and Skyla Wayrynen. Wow, their painting was a great success and it raised $500 for Art Ignites. You were so much fun to watch.

  • Our stylin’ small tour guide, Dolly Fraser who stepped into a difficult task at the last minute

We thank you for your support and we look forward to working with you in the future.

We can’t wait to do it all again next year. Art Vancouver 2020 is scheduled for April 17, 2020.

Save the date and see you again next year!
