Art Ignites

Creative Pathway Initiative

Art Ignites is a youth-focused arts development initiative supporting creativity from elementary school through emerging artists in their early 20s. The program provides hands-on arts experiences in schools and structured mentorship for emerging artists, creating meaningful pathways to careers in the arts while nurturing confidence, emotional well-being, and creative identity.

Art Ignites recognizes that creative expression is deeply connected to mental health. Participation in the arts helps reduce stress and anxiety, improve focus, build resilience, and strengthen self-esteem. By encouraging self-expression in supportive environments, the program fosters both artistic growth and emotional development. The program is inclusive and accessible. Children with disabilities are fully welcomed and supported through adaptive techniques, flexible instruction, and individualized guidance to ensure every participant can engage meaningfully at their own pace and ability level.

In-School Arts Engagement (K-12)

Students explore their creativity and gain exposure to the arts through:

  • Artist-led workshops in schools

  • Visits to exhibitions and art events, including Art Vancouver

  • Hands-on projects designed to spark interest in creative careers

Priority is given to schools with limited or no arts programming, providing students with opportunities to engage in creative experiences, explore new ideas, and develop artistic confidence.

This component introduces students to potential arts career pathways while cultivating imagination, critical thinking, and emotional resilience in environments where arts resources are limited.

Emerging Artist Mentorship (Ages 17 - 20+)

Emerging artists receive mentorship and professional development to advance their artistic careers, including:

  • One-on-one mentorship with established artists

  • Portfolio and exhibition development

  • Training in grants, media, and business skills

This stream builds leadership, industry readiness, and professional experience, while empowering participants to mentor younger students and contribute to the creative community.

Testimonials

Natasha Redwood-Scribe

"Lisa Wolfin is an experienced artist and mentor. I’ve had the privilege of working with her for a few years and have learnt a lot from her during our time together at VVAF. She’s given great advice about how to become a successful artist and how to improve your art. I would always look forward to our meetings because she would teach me something new every time! She pushes you to find your own style and not be afraid of taking risks. I’m very grateful to have her as my mentor."
