Claudia Wiebe
I am a self-taught artist who intuitively creates abstract mixed-media art with acrylic paints. I am originally from Germany, and I have been living in Canada for over 30 years. My home and my studio are in North Vancouver, BC. My work is inspired by the ever-changing complexities of love and loss, and joy and grief… Life has taken me on many different roads, being a pediatric nurse, a caregiver, a mother, a wife, a teacher/mentor, and today an artist. Having faced many challenges in my life, I have learned to be open to new opportunities. I am drawn to the expressive and healing components of art and truly enjoy the creative process. My art is often characterized by vibrant colors, bold brushwork, and marks that reflect a very personal and dynamic representation of my experiences. The layers created in my art are just like life, evidence of what happened, what we did, and what was done to us. They tell our story, and this is what makes us most interesting. Embracing all the layers of life is what I hope you will see in the layers of my paintings. Revisiting some of these deep layers, accepting them for what they are and what they meant to me, has shaped me, and made me who I am today.
